8.4 Using tiller engine gearshift and throttle

The tiller handle includes a throttle grip, forward and reverse gearshift, and for some models, an engine trim angle controller.

Risk of material damage.

Do not shift into reverse while travelling at higher speeds as this damages the engine.

  • Ensure that the engine is idling before engaging the gear.
  • Engage the gear by pushing or pulling the gearshift lever forward or backwards.
  • When the engine is in gear, adjust the speed using the throttle grip.
  • When the boat is travelling forward at a slow speed and the engine is idling, you can use the reverse gear for braking.

For detailed information on using the tiller handle engine, see the engine manufacturer's manual.
