8.2 Starting tiller handle engine

The boat can be equipped with a tiller handle engine. The ignition is controlled by a manual starter handle, button or start switch, depending on the engine model.
  1. If the engine is equipped with an electric starter, switch on the power using the main power switch.
  2. Lower the engine into the driving position by pressing the power tilt button on the engine.
If the power tilt button is not available, lower the engine manually.
  3. Check that the gear is in the neutral position and that the emergency cut-off switch is attached to the tiller handle.
  4. Turn the throttle grip to the START position.
  5. If the engine is equipped with a start switch, turn it to the ON position.
  6. Start the engine by choosing the action that corresponds to your engine model.
    • Pull the manual starter handle slowly until you feel resistance. Then give a strong, straight pull to start the engine. Repeat if necessary.
    • Turn and hold the starts switch in the START position until the engine starts.
    • Press and hold the starter button on the engine until the engine starts.
  7. Return the throttle to the fully closed position by turning the grip.
  8. Let the engine idle for a few minutes before setting off.
An engine with an electric starter should start within 1-2 seconds from turning or pressing the start switch/button. Do not try to start the engine for more than 10 seconds at a time.
